The next day we drove to Chichicastenango (Guatemalans called it Chichi). It is a very interesting place with kind of spiritual energy in it. The main church is built on top of a pyramid and you can still see the veneration that people place in this place for prayers. People were burning incense in a platform at the base of the front steps. Prayers are said at this platform before they go into the church for more prayers. Inside the church there are a series of platforms along the center of the church with offerings of rose petals and candles. We saw a young man crying his eyes out while in prayer. Surrounding the church, the Sunday market was exuberant and colorful. With the best handicraft, fruit and vegetables from the area were laid out.
