Antigua

We left Guatemala City and stopped in the town of Antigua Guatemala, the old capital.

We stayed in a beautiful place called the Casa Santo Domingo. This was the place were they had the summit ceremonies when Clinton was there a couple of months ago. The hotel was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at and really hated to go the next day. The hotel was built around an historic convent with the original walls and arches still intact. Adjacent to the hotel site was a historical museum, in which there was a Catholic Church that was destroyed during a volcanic eruption. This was my birthday, so we spent it in the most wonderful place that we could be here in Guatemala.

That night we saw the celebration of a special mass (a quincianero) in the ruins of a church. The ruins of the church were decorated with lots of candles that made it look surreal (almost like that Madonna video). We had dinner in a restaurant called Don Martin and latter went dancing to a fun place called "Casbah" with a nice terrace.
